This month I have been participating in the #FoodNotPhood challenge hosted by Hol:Fit. The challenge involves 3 things that we have to do each day. Start the day off with a Green Glow Smoothie, drink half our weight in ounces of water and eat non processed foods. And thus begins my love affair with kale. I am new to this band wagon and it is not nearly as bad as I thought it would be. I think that new foods can sometimes be scary. How do you prepare it? Is it bitter and how do I counteract that? What does it go with? I say just jump on in with two feet and see if you like it. Try it in a variety of ways before you completely rule it out. It may just be that you don't like it raw but loved it cooked or that you can't stand it steamed but when roasted you could eat a ton of it.
Looking to try kale too? Here are some easy options that can get you started.
Green Glow Smoothie
Green Monster Smoothie
Kale, Pineapple and Almond Milk Smoothie
Kale Caesar Salad
Spicy Kale and Chick Pea Stew
Winter Lentil Soup
What new food have you tried lately that you surprisingly loved? Kale - for or against?
I may need to give it another shot. I have had kale mixed in with buttery mashed potatoes (colcannon), but that pretty much nixed any health benefits. So I made kale chips and didn't like them at all.
ReplyDeleteMaybe I'll try them in a lentil soup.
Oh yes! I LOVE kale too; I eat it most days - usually half a bag of it blitzed into soup. Another way for newbies is to dry roast it in the oven with some spices. That way it lasts for ages too. I've not yet been brave enough to stick it in my smoothie but I'm working on it! I hope you are feeling great on your new eating plan; you must be GLOWING with energy :)
ReplyDelete@ Kim - I haven't tried kale chips and for some reason they don't look appealing to me.
ReplyDelete@ Mrs. Green - Maybe try with a little bit of kale in your smoothie and then increase it as you get used to it?
We are huge fans of kale chips here, the kids can devour a entire head of kale in less than 5 minutes!
ReplyDeleteAny tips to how you make them Jenn?
ReplyDeleteI love kale also! I have been buying a lot of it lately and cooking it or making a raw salad.
